Fondation Cartier will host Cartier, Jeweler of the Arts

From April 3-22, 2012, the Fondation Cartier will host Cartier, Jeweler with the Arts, a fantastic presentation of 4 unique artworks commissioned by Cartier since 2009.





To make a work of art using precious or semi-precious stones which have been pierced, engraved, unmounted as well as damaged, and will therefore not used in classic jewelry; to bestow new life on these pearls, emeralds, sapphires, mandarin garnets, moonstones, paved diamonds, chalcedonies, rubies… It was the mission how the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain and Cartier entrusted to four globally renowned contemporary artists, popular to the Fondation.


David Lynch, Alessandro Mendini, Takeshi Kitano and Beatriz Milhazes each met and caused the Cartier master jewelers; using this passionate exchange four exceptional artworks were created - extraordinary unique materials for that artists plus a new life because of these stones that will no longer corresponded to the jeweler’s high standards.


The event and execution of the veritable précis of gemology was the task of Cartier Joaillerie, while each artist as well as their creation revived the soul of the stones and symbolized their eternity in their own individual special way. Together, artists and master jewelers have created a precious story of gemstones.
